Not just a pretty face, the bog laurel has several roles in the Lulu Island Bog ecosystem, as Micahael Wolfe sometimes explains when leading eco-tours of the Garden City Lands. (Michael Wolfe photo)

Some visions of an ALR future would leave room on the Garden City Lands for native species like the bog laurel.

Save Garden City - the Coalition request to the Commission

The Garden City Lands Coalition Society developed a “request” called Save Garden City and delivered it to the Agricultural Land Commission. It is subtitled like this:

An urgent request to the Agricultural Land Commission from the Garden City Lands Coalition in response to the re-application to exclude the Garden City Lands from the Agricultural Land Reserve.

The Coalition provided the Commission with enough copies, in organized binders, for all six Commission panel members plus the staff working on the application. We also provided all the contents as electronic files.

Note: For each file mentioned, the size in kilobytes (kB) will give you a sense of the time needed for downloading.

Save Garden City has several components. Besides a cover/title page (623 kB) they include:

Basic request: 1-page Coalition letter to the Commission (253 kB)

Full request: 43 pages—an executive summary and three sections (753 kB)

Resources: 18 documents that fill out the sections further

Petition: 81 pages of handwritten and online signatures, as explained here

Final note: a few final words of appreciation to the Commission
