The 2009 annual general meeting (AGM) of the Garden City Lands
Coalition Society was held in "The Barn" at Terra Nova Rural Park, 2631
Westminster Highway, on Monday, June 22. Here are the
minutes.
This page originally introduced the upcoming meeting. Now that it's
in the past, we decided to leave the page up because (1) it will help
other people to find The Barn and (2) the meeting went so well that we'd
like to celebrate it for as long as we can.
"The Barn" (a.k.a. the Red Barn) looks like a barn, but it now serves
more as a gathering place. It even has a new kitchen, used primarily by
Chef Ian Lai for his community-service activities. On the north side of
the building, there are public washrooms, which are accessed from
outside. (As with other aspects of the Terra Nova Rural Park, the City
of Richmond has done a terrific job.)

The map shows the final part of the road route to "The Barn," as well
as an additional parking area that is nearby. (Note: Give the map a few
seconds to fully appear. It's worth the wait.)

At the 2631 Westminster entrance, you will notice the green
2631
sign on the left. It shares a pole with the signs of groups that
¢w thanks to the City of Richmond ¢w use this part of the Terra Nova Rural
Farm for community benefit:
- Terra Nova Schoolyard Society
- Tzu Chi Foundation Sharing Farm
- Richmond Fruit Tree Sharing Project (Terra Nova Sharing Farm)
They flourish together in harmony, along with community gardeners and
city staff. Many organizations, companies, and individuals contribute to
the success and become immersed in the harmony.
The Terra Nova Sharing Farm, which hosted the 2009 Garden City Lands
Coalition Society AGM, grows organic produce for the Richmond Food Bank
in its fields and greenhouse. Our hosts briefly introduced the farm
toward the end of the meeting, and they were happy to lead a tour in the
mingling time afterwards.
The Garden City Lands could become the urban cousin of the Terra Nova
Rural Park. It was great to be able to meet there, and there was much to
learn from it.
